Senior Accountant – Vacation Rental Services

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join Howard Financial’s Vacation Rental practice. You will own the month‑end close, reconciliations and reporting for one or more vacation‑rental portfolios, acting as the key accounting point of contact for clients and internal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Manage full‑cycle month‑end close, including journal entries, accruals and account reconciliations for vacation‑rental accounts.
• Reconcile owner statements, trust/escrow accounts and property‑level revenue against data from PMS platforms such as Guesty, Streamline, Track or Hostaway.
• Review and mentor junior bookkeepers/accountants, ensuring accuracy before finalization.
• Prepare and analyze property and portfolio financial statements (P&L, balance sheet) for client and internal review.
• Oversee AP/AR processes, coordinating vendor and owner payments using tools like Ramp or Bill.com.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies in booking, occupancy and revenue data flowing into the general ledger.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis for client portfolios.
• Maintain and improve documentation of accounting procedures specific to the vacation‑rental revenue cycle.
• Partner with the Controller/Sr. Controller and communicate proactively with client stakeholders.

Required profile

• 3‑5 + years of progressive accounting experience, including 1‑2 years at a senior accountant level.
• Hands‑on experience in vacation‑rental, short‑term rental or property‑management accounting; trust accounting exposure is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and full month‑end close ownership.
• Proven ability to reconcile high‑volume, multi‑property transaction data.
• Excellent written and spoken English for daily client‑facing communication.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel / Google Sheets (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliation workbooks).
• Understanding of US GAAP accounting standards.
• Familiarity with vacation‑rental PMS platforms (Guesty, Streamline, Track, Hostaway).
• Experience with payment tools such as Ramp, Bill.com, QuickBooks.
