About the role

The Junior Occupational Health and Safety Engineer will support the implementation and documentation of the SSO management system and the BASC certification process for S2 Global, ensuring compliance with Guatemalan regulations and international standards. The role requires frequent travel, especially to Puerto Barrios, and close collaboration with internal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain documentation required for BASC certification and close identified gaps.
• Assist in implementing the SSO management system and the Occupational Health and Safety Plan, including risk control measures derived from hazard identification and risk assessment (IPER).
• Support health surveillance activities, work with the company physician on epidemiology, accident, and occupational disease reporting.
• Deliver SSO training programs and submit monthly accident/illness reports to the Ministry of Labor.
• Lead investigations of incidents and workplace accidents.
• Help implement and lead emergency response plans and brigades at each site.
• Document standards, protocols, and procedures resulting from IPER analyses.
• Monitor employee compliance with SSO requirements and ensure legal minimum standards are met.

Required profile

• Leadership and strong interpersonal skills.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in occupational health and safety.
• Degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• Certified in first aid and competent in using a first‑aid kit.
• Trained in occupational risk prevention.
• Familiarity with Guatemalan OHS regulations and SSO management systems.
• Understanding of the PDCA (Plan‑Do‑Check‑Act) cycle for safety management.
• Willingness to travel regularly, especially to Puerto Barrios.
