Payroll & Finance Controller – Guatemala

About the role

Athena is looking for a Payroll & Finance Controller to lead the payroll function for its Guatemala office. You will ensure accurate, timely payroll processing, statutory compliance, and support the broader finance and accounting operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Payroll Specialist with end‑to‑end payroll runs (monthly or bi‑weekly), calculating salaries, overtime, commissions, bonuses and deductions.
• Process mandatory Guatemalan statutory payments such as Bono 14, Aguinaldo and IGSS contributions, and file payroll tax returns.
• Reconcile payroll transactions with the General Ledger, prepare journal entries and maintain accurate financial records.
• Handle accounts payable for Guatemalan vendors using Tipalti, ensuring timely payments and proper documentation.
• Post accounting transactions in QuickBooks and support month‑end and year‑end close activities.
• Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and ensure timely submission of statutory reports.
• Conduct payroll audits, maintain employee payroll records in HRIS, and prepare documentation for government inspections.

Required profile

• Experience in payroll administration and statutory compliance within Guatemala.
• Knowledge of Guatemalan labor laws, tax regulations and social security (IGSS) requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
