People & Culture Officer

About the role

The People & Culture Officer provides professional HR services for the STRIDES Activity in Guatemala, supporting staff and managers across recruitment, employee relations, performance management, benefits, and compliance with local labor laws.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end recruitment processes, from requisition approval to hiring, and maintain the onboarding program.
• Provide policy guidance and resolve routine employment matters for employees and managers.
• Establish and monitor goal‑setting and performance review processes, advising senior leadership on performance challenges.
• Act as an empathetic mediator to resolve conflicts according to FHI 360 procedures.
• Coordinate learning and development activities and identify professional growth opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with Guatemalan labor laws and FHI 360 policies, informing project management of risks.
• Prepare high‑quality HR and administrative documentation and maintain HRIS data integrity.
• Generate standard HR reports and support core project operational tasks as needed.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of Guatemalan labor law and HR best practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Development, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum five years of progressive HR experience, including independent responsibility for recruitment, employee relations, policy interpretation, and performance management.
• Fluent in Spanish and proficient in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency with HRIS systems.
• Experience using reporting tools for HR analytics.
