About the role

The University of the Valley of Guatemala (UVG) seeks a Greenhouse Technician to provide technical and operational support for the maintenance and proper functioning of its central campus greenhouses. The role ensures plant material is cared for and that greenhouse spaces are ready for teaching, research, and service activities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and operational handling of greenhouse facilities, guaranteeing optimal conditions for plant health and assigned activities.
• Conduct sowing, propagation, and upkeep of plant material required by the Plant Protection Program.
• Manage and control inputs, materials, and resources allocated to the greenhouse to ensure their availability and proper use.
• Provide technical assistance to services, research projects, and Plant Protection Program activities that rely on greenhouse use.

Required profile

• Secondary education (high‑school) level.
• At least one year of experience in greenhouse or agricultural technical work.
• Familiarity with semi‑analytical balances, seed germination and vigor testing, and pest‑disease monitoring.

Required skills

• Operation of semi‑analytical balances.
• Sowing and handling of indicator plants for virus, bacteria, and fungus inoculation.
• Biosecurity handling of inoculated control plants.
• Seed germination and vigor assessment.
• Monitoring and control of plant pests and diseases.
• Knowledge of pests and diseases affecting vegetable crops.
