Director General de Educación

About the role

Safe Passage/Camino Seguro is seeking a Director General of Education to lead the educational strategy of its Expeditionary Learning school in Guatemala City. The role oversees academic quality, curriculum coherence, and the integration of health, wellbeing and trauma‑informed services across all grade levels.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the organization’s educational strategy, ensuring alignment with the Expeditionary Learning model.
• Coordinate and support senior and teaching teams, overseeing curriculum planning and professional development.
• Lead the design and delivery of socio‑emotional support, student‑leadership and trauma‑informed programs.
• Collaborate closely with health, wellbeing and family‑service units to embed a community‑centered, trauma‑sensitive approach.
• Develop, monitor and report on performance indicators, continuous‑improvement plans and outcomes to executive leadership and external partners.

Required profile

• University degree in Education, Pedagogy, Educational Psychology or related field; master’s or postgraduate studies in educational management or school leadership preferred.
• Proven experience leading schools, educational programs or complex pedagogical projects, especially in high‑vulnerability contexts.
• Strong leadership and team‑management abilities, fostering collaboration and innovation.
• Deep knowledge of active pedagogical models such as Expeditionary Learning, project‑based learning and community‑centered education.
• Experience or training in trauma‑informed care, socio‑emotional wellbeing, family engagement and coordination with health/social services.
• Strategic planning, data analysis, indicator design and program evaluation expertise.
• Excellent communication skills in Spanish and English.
