Director of Compliance Operations

About the role

Western Union is seeking a senior leader to head its Compliance Operations in Guatemala. The Director will oversee a team of roughly 100 employees and partner sites, ensuring effective delivery of global compliance functions such as sanctions screening, fraud operations, agent oversight and consumer protection.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Guatemala‑based Compliance Operations organization, providing direction for all compliance‑related processes.
• Own operational performance metrics (productivity, quality, service levels) and drive continuous improvement across sanctions, fraud, due‑diligence and transaction monitoring.
• Develop workforce plans, succession strategies and talent development programs to build high‑performing teams.
• Partner with global compliance, HR, finance and technology leaders to align capacity, priorities and governance.
• Represent Compliance Operations on the Guatemala site leadership team and support site growth initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in business, operations, finance, management or related field (MBA preferred).
• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in large‑scale operations or shared‑services environments, preferably within financial services or regulated industries.
• Deep knowledge of compliance domains such as AML, KYC, sanctions screening, fraud detection and consumer protection.
• Fluent in Spanish and English with strong executive communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
