Senior Backend Engineer – Ads Platform

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build the core systems of a next‑generation advertising platform that embeds products directly into visual experiences. You will create high‑throughput, low‑latency services for campaign delivery, targeting, attribution, and partner integrations using Python, Django, Kubernetes and AWS.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, develop and evolve the core backend services of the Ads platform.
• Design APIs for campaign management, targeting, delivery, attribution and reporting.
• Build and optimise high‑throughput, low‑latency systems that process large volumes of events and data.
• Own end‑to‑end lifecycle of critical services: design, implementation, deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Define architectural patterns that ensure scalability, reliability and developer productivity.
• Collaborate with product, data and partner teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Provide technical leadership through design reviews, system discussions and mentoring of other engineers.
• Contribute to engineering best practices, documentation and long‑term platform vision.
• Participate in hiring and help grow a high‑performing engineering team.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of software development experience building scalable backend systems.
• Strong understanding of computer‑science fundamentals such as algorithms, data structures, networking and databases.
• Proven experience designing and scaling distributed systems with focus on performance, observability and fault tolerance.
• Architectural instincts and ability to make high‑impact technical decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers and influence engineering practices.
• Strong ownership mindset and excellent communication skills.
• Availability to work until 1 pm EST (≈8 pm Kyiv time).
• Comfortable in a fast‑paced, high‑autonomy, product‑driven environment.
• Experience with e‑commerce or catalog management is a plus.
