Java Backend Engineer

About the role

Plan A Technologies is seeking an experienced Java Backend Engineer to shape the technical roadmap of its internal developer platform. You will design, build, and maintain high‑performance, scalable Java services while collaborating across engineering teams to deliver a best‑in‑class developer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the technical roadmap, championing open standards and Java best practices.
• Develop, scale, and maintain concurrent Java services and core platform features such as CI/CD pipelines, monorepos, feature flags, and observability tools.
• Design and maintain internal Java APIs (REST/gRPC) and tools that improve developer productivity.
• Partner with engineering customers to translate pain points into reliability, scalability, and quality improvements.
• Build advanced automated systems, including AI‑driven workflows, to boost operational efficiency.
• Establish and refine standards for Java system reliability, performance tuning, and monitoring, including SLAs and SLOs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience with deep hands‑on Core Java in large‑scale production environments.
• Proven ability to influence technical decisions and lead complex projects.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with excellent verbal and written English communication.
• Initiative and drive to deliver high‑quality solutions.

Required skills

• Core Java, object‑oriented design, multithreading/concurrency, JVM internals, memory management.
• Build tools: Maven or Gradle.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Containerization: Docker.
• Orchestration: Kubernetes.
• API design: REST and gRPC.
• CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling.
