Macroeconomic Frameworks Resident Advisor

About the role

The IMF’s Institute for Capacity Development is seeking a Macroeconomic Frameworks Resident Advisor to support member countries in Central America and the Caribbean. Based in Guatemala City, the advisor will strengthen forecasting and analytical capabilities of government institutions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical assistance and training on macroeconomic frameworks to central banks, ministries of finance and other public institutions.
• Develop medium‑term projects and annual work plans in collaboration with country authorities, development partners and IMF staff.
• Coordinate with development partners to ensure complementarity and avoid duplication of effort.
• Contribute to the broader CAPTAC‑DR program through steering committee meetings, reporting, outreach and conferences.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in Economics or a related field.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in macroeconomic forecasting and familiarity with the IMF’s financial programming framework.
• Strong relationship‑management, negotiation and influencing skills for working with national authorities.
• Ability to organize and coordinate technical assistance and training across multiple IMF departments and international partners.

Required skills

• Macroeconomic modeling and forecasting using software such as Matlab, Python, EViews, Dynare and Iris.
• Advanced Excel for building sectoral relationship frameworks and projection equations.
