About the role

The Agroforestry Technician based in Sayaxché, Petén will lead the implementation of sustainable land‑management results through ecological restoration and agroforestry systems. Working with Heifer, the technician will provide technical expertise, manage community nurseries, and support local producers to integrate economic benefits with environmental conservation.

Key responsibilities

• Execute the project result aimed at increasing sustainably managed areas via ecological restoration and agroforestry.
• Provide technical support on sustainable production systems, community nursery development, and plant production.
• Coordinate a nursery plan that includes community governance, species selection, and the production of 100,000 plants.
• Identify, select, and implement restoration actions on 100 hectares, creating at least 60 farm plans aligned with SAF models.
• Strengthen organizational and commercial capacities of producers, linking them with buyers and post‑harvest value‑adding practices.
• Collaborate closely with the Project Coordinator and technical team, updating the MEL system and ensuring activities meet project indicators, outputs, and targets.

Required profile

• Technical degree in agronomy, forestry, or environmental science (closed curriculum).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in rural development and environmental projects.
• Strong communication and community engagement skills.
• Knowledge of agroforestry systems and work in protected areas.
• Preferably residing in Sayaxché, Las Cruces, or La Libertad.
• Experience implementing community or municipal nurseries.
• Ability to operate a two‑wheeled vehicle.
• Demonstrable proficiency in MS Office.
• Responsible, dynamic, respectful, values‑oriented, organized, with excellent interpersonal skills and a service‑driven attitude.
