Director Central America – Guatemala City

About the role

Mercy Corps is seeking a growth‑driven leader to serve as the Central America Director, based in Guatemala City. The role oversees day‑to‑day programs and operations in Guatemala while leading the establishment of new operations in Honduras and Mexico. The Director will ensure compliance with local laws, Mercy Corps policies, and donor regulations, delivering high‑quality programs on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for Mercy Corps programs in Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico.
• Supervise the Guatemala country team leadership and ensure smooth program implementation.
• Lead proposal development for multi‑country, multi‑sector initiatives.
• Maintain accountability to program participants, donors, and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with PM@MC standards, local regulations, and donor requirements.
• Manage budgets, timelines, and scope for all assigned programs.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience managing operations or programs in fluid, multi‑country environments.
• Proven ability to formulate strategic direction across several contexts simultaneously.
• Strong leadership and supervisory experience, particularly with country‑level teams.
• Demonstrated track record of delivering programs on time, on budget, and to high quality standards.
• Legal right to work in Guatemala at the time of application.
