Director Central America - Guatemala

About the role

Mercy Corps is seeking a Director for Central America based in Guatemala City. The Director oversees day-to-day programs and operations in Guatemala and leads the establishment of new program operations in Honduras and Mexico. The role supervises the Guatemala country team and ensures programs run in line with local laws, Mercy Corps policies and donor rules, on time, on budget and to scope. The salary is set according to the local scale and professional experience.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and communicate the vision for Mercy Corps in Central America, including Guatemala's program strategy and expansion into new country programs
• Pursue new country initiatives and funding opportunities with institutional and private donors, and lead fundraising activities
• Lead strategy development in new countries aligned with the global Pathway to Prosperity framework and oversee the global rebrand in Guatemala
• Develop the Guatemala team, support career development, hire and lead team members, and give regular feedback
• Oversee program quality and impact, MEL systems, budget management of sub-grantees and segregation of duties between finance and operations
• Supervise the operations unit (HR, Finance, Administration/Purchasing) and maintain close oversight of the overall budget
• Represent Mercy Corps in humanitarian and development networks, donor fora, media and community activities, and build relationships with partners, governments, foundations and donors
• Ensure compliance with donor and Mercy Corps regulations, the Gender Policy, Do No Harm principles and safeguarding policies

Required profile

• Experience in senior roles managing operations and/or programming in fluid environments, and formulating strategy across multiple contexts
• Supervisory responsibility for a country team
• Ideal candidate has experience in emergency response and rapid expansion of activities and support functions
• Independent right to work in Guatemala at the time of application
