Director of Development & Communications

About the role

The Director of Development & Communications works closely with the Executive Director and senior leadership to shape WJI’s resource development, communications, and external engagement strategies. This senior position drives fundraising, donor stewardship, and brand visibility while supporting the organization’s mission to advance social justice and prevent violence against women and girls.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Communications and Development department, setting strategic priorities and managing team members.
• Develop and execute a comprehensive resource development strategy aligned with long‑term financial goals.
• Oversee the full fundraising cycle for foundations, corporations, and individual donors, including prospect identification, proposal development, stewardship, reporting, and renewal.
• Design and manage major fundraising initiatives, campaigns, and events such as the Strategic Growth Campaign.
• Monitor fundraising performance, assess progress against goals, and adjust tactics as needed.
• Cultivate and steward relationships with existing and prospective donors, partners, and stakeholders.
• Support Board engagement by equipping members to act as ambassadors, advocates, and fundraisers.
• Collaborate with program, impact, learning, and operations teams to ensure communications reflect WJI’s impact.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, and communications.
• Strong strategic thinking with the ability to anticipate challenges and identify growth opportunities.
• Excellent relationship‑building skills with donors, partners, and board members.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high‑performing teams.
• Passion for social‑justice issues, particularly women’s rights and violence prevention.
