Medical Assistant – Palencia

About the role

Under the direction of the Supervising Clinical Provider, the RN/LPN/Paramedic/EMT/Medical Assistant provides direct patient care in the office setting and in patients' homes as needed, following the policies and procedures of Island Doctors.

Key responsibilities

• Interview patients and triage each patient with a knowledgeable, confident, and timely response.
• Record vital signs such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, height, and weight.
• Prepare treatment rooms for examinations, ensuring they are clean and well stocked.
• Clean and sterilize instruments after each use.
• Inventory and order medical supplies.
• Perform diagnostic testing such as EKG, glucose test, INR, urinalysis, and rapid strep.
• Administer injections and IV treatments; draw blood for diagnostic testing.
• Call prescriptions into the pharmacy and fax refill requests once approved.
• Assist patients over the phone while maintaining confidentiality.
• Support front‑office duties like answering phones, filing charts, and scheduling appointments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Active RN, LPN, Paramedic, EMT or RMA license required.
• BLS certification required; BMO preferred.
• Ability to manage difficult or emotional situations with patients and families.
• One year of back‑office experience preferred.
• Friendly, compassionate disposition with strong organizational and time‑management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Dedication to maintaining confidentiality of all patient records.
